Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Book of the Day — from finding your next great read to how we choose and review our daily picks. Start with the day's pick, browse the archive, or explore books by subject.
Where to start
Finding Your Next Read
What should I read today?
Start with our Book of the Day — one title chosen and reviewed fresh each morning. Every pick comes with a short, human-edited review of what the book does well, who it’s for, and what to expect, so you can decide whether it’s right for you before you start the first page.
Where can I find daily book recommendations?
What are some good books to read?
Our archive is a growing library of past picks across every genre — a good place to wander when you want something proven rather than brand new. For curated lists organised by theme and season, the blog and our collections gather titles around a single idea.
Do you only feature new releases?
No — we mix new releases with overlooked backlist titles, so a recent debut might sit next to a novel from twenty years ago. If you want to look ahead, our Upcoming Books page tracks titles we’re excited about before they’re published, and the archive holds everything we’ve featured so far.

Discovering Unique Books

Finding Books by Category
How can I find books based on mood or occasion?
We group books into editorial collections for different reading moods. Try Short Reads when you want something you can finish in a sitting, Book Club Picks for discussion-worthy titles, or Hidden Gems for overlooked favourites. The full set lives on the collections page.
Do you have genre-specific recommendations?
Yes — every pick is filed by subject. Browse the full list of subjects, or jump straight to popular shelves like fantasy, thriller, romance, science fiction, and literary fiction.
Are these books available as ebooks and audiobooks?
Most are. We focus on the book itself rather than a single format, and the Amazon listing we link to usually lets you choose between print, Kindle, and audiobook editions where they exist — so you can read or listen however you prefer. You can find digital and audio editions of past picks throughout the archive.
What are good book club picks?
Our Book Club Picks collection gathers titles chosen for their discussion value — complex themes, memorable characters, and plots that spark conversation. The full archive holds plenty more group-reading ideas.
Behind the scenes
About Book of the Day
How are your daily book selections made?
Book of the Day is a small, independent reading companion, not an algorithm. Picks come from new releases, overlooked backlist titles, reader submissions, and genre deep-dives, chosen by people who read widely. We use research tools to gather context, but every review is read, edited, and approved by a person before it goes live. There’s more on this on our about page.
Is Book of the Day free to use?
How often is the site updated?
A new Book of the Day goes up every day. Between the daily picks we add reading guides and themed lists to the blog and keep the Upcoming Books page current as new titles are announced.
How does Book of the Day make money?
The site is free to read, supported by a few light ads and the Amazon Associates program. When you buy a book through one of our Amazon links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you — that’s most of what keeps the recommendations free. It never changes which books we choose. You can read the full details on our about page.
How can I get the daily pick by email or social media?
Can I submit a book for consideration?
Yes — we welcome submissions from authors, publishers, and readers. Use our submission page to recommend a book for feature consideration. We read every submission that meets our criteria, looking for strong writing, a clear point of view, and books that offer readers something worth their time. We can’t feature them all, but we’re always glad to find new books to share.
Do you recommend books that aren't on bestseller lists?
Often. Bestsellers turn up from time to time, but much of what we feature sits beyond the mainstream — independent presses, debut authors, and backlist titles that never had their moment. Our daily picks and archive are chosen by people, not a sales ranking.
